    • Here's a source for flash storage adapters, designed specifically for 5th gen and later "classic" iPods using compact flash card, SD card, or even m-sata card. It could be several things. It's an SSD (the type designed as replacement for laptops that use the same type of 1.8-inch drive). Not a more common form of flash-based store like a compact flash card or SD card? Where did you buy this "kit" (provide link to it)? It's possible that an SSD that is designed as a replacement for laptops does not work in iPods. For example, it may require too much power for use in an iPod. Loading page content. I decided to go a 256gb ssd upgrade which came as a kit. Page content loaded. • According to the web site linked above, some models of iPod classic have problems with storage above 128GB. I don't have personal experience with those adapters in the above link (used with 5th gen and later "classic" iPods ), but I have replaced the hard drive in my even older 3rd gen iPod (with an SD card) and 4th gen iPod (with a compact flash card), using different adapters. They work better now than when they were new, and have MUCH higher storage capacity (but not as high as 256GB). Posted on Apr 4, 2016 4:52 PM. Question: Q: Ipod classic with 256gb ssd. I have an ipod classic 7th gen and had problems with syncing ,and through a heap of forums with my symptoms deduced that the hard drive was the problem. I decided to go a 256gb ssd upgrade which came as a kit. When I turned it on after fitting the ssd the ipod came up with the red X inside a red circle. I went into diagnostics and in the harddrive section it came up with the Diag Halt flashing and Cannot open device. I then put the original drive back in and have exactly the same thing come up and I can hear it clicking and whirring trying to start up. I'm thinking maybe that the ssd I've got may be faulty. It's a "Fashion Sprout" ssd. Would appreciate hearing from anyone who may have experienced this. Thankyou. • If the same error screen appears with the original hard drive, it's possible the actual problem (which cause you to replace the hard drive) is not a bad hard drive, but some other problem on the iPod. • It's possible you cause other damage while opening the iPod. All replies. iPod classic, Windows 7.
